Associació Empresarial Química de Tarragona (Chemical Business Association of Tarragona)

The Associació Empresarial Química de Tarragona (AEQT), or Tarragona Chemical Business Association, is a driving force behind the region’s chemical sector. This community-based organization works towards a dual mission: establishing Tarragona as the premier chemical cluster in Southern Europe, while ensuring the industry’s sustainable development.

The AEQT boasts a strong membership of 33 companies, encompassing the chemical giants of Tarragona’s North and South industrial parks. TAUW Iberia has been involved since the last decade in major soil and groundwater remediation projects, particularly focusing on innovative and sustainable in situ (bio) remediation projects. Natural based remediation solutions are key, as they meet zero waste and zero energy impact, while achieving safe production and efficient remediation targets.

Through its dedicated efforts, the AEQT has positioned Tarragona’s chemical sector as a European benchmark in several key areas. These include safety practices, fostering positive relationships with surrounding communities, prioritizing sustainability, and implementing effective environmental management strategies. TAUW is helping to find the balance between te industrial activities and the other main economic drivers in the region, like tourism and the Tarragona municipality nearby.

The AEQT’s success stories are numerous and impactful. They include a shared piping network connecting member companies and the port of Tarragona, designated safety parks for chemical operations, a collaborative wastewater treatment and water recycling system, a joint sewage outlet pipe, a dedicated marine pollution response park, and the innovative Nasapp project for odor monitoring. The AEQT serves as a vital link between member companies, fostering collaboration and innovation. By doing so, they propel Tarragona’s chemical sector towards a future that is both competitive and sustainable.
