In Germany, where space is becoming scarce, the Deutscher Brownfield Verband (DEBV), or German Brownfield Association, is spearheading a critical mission:  revitalizing and reusing brownfield sites. This approach represents the pinnacle of sustainability, as it prioritizes responsible decontamination while safeguarding green spaces from further development.

The urgency is clear. Politicians are proclaiming the land consumption target of “net zero by 2050”. The DEBV unequivocally states: achieving this target is impossible without effective brownfield redevelopment.

The brownfield market is experiencing intense pressure. Regulations are becoming increasingly stringent and often lack consistency across different federal, state, and local authorities. This complexity creates challenges for those involved in brownfield projects.

The DEBV was founded in December 2020 by Brownfield24 with a clear objective: to unify the voices of stakeholders in the brownfield sector. The association aims to influence policy creation by advocating for practical solutions and streamlining regulations. This, in turn, will significantly ease the development process for all parties involved in brownfield projects.

It’s important to note that TAUW Germany, a member of the Brownfield24 network and DEBV, actively contributes to the  mission of the association. By collaborating with industry leaders, the DEBV is paving the way for a more sustainable future in Germany through the responsible revitalization of brownfield sites.
