What is climate Fresk?
Climate Fresk is a French initiative to create awareness about climate issues. Using information from the IPPC reports, Climate Fresk teaches participants the science behind climate change in a three-hour workshop and empowers them to take action.

The object of the workshop is to understand the causes and consequences of climate change. Each aspect – cause and effect – of climate change is illustrated by a card, with the science explained on the back. Participants are encouraged by the workshop facilitator to find links between cards to create solutions for climate issues. The participants decide how and in which order to lay the cards, creating their own unique picture. Hence the name Fresk, derived from the French ‘fresque’, meaning picture or mural.

Baptiste attended a workshop and was so enthusiastic that he immediately signed up to become a facilitator himself. He now runs workshops for NGOs and companies in France. And recently, even for his colleagues at TAUW.

Climate Fresk at TAUW
Baptiste proposed a Climate Fresk at the TAUW France biannual teambuilding event in May 2023. His management and the team event organisers had confidence in his abilities and so he, along with five external facilitators, organised and facilitated one large Climate Fresk event, which 90 of his colleagues attended. Baptiste explained: “At TAUW we consider ourselves experts in this area. It was interesting to see during the workshops that there was no one who knew everything. The workshops helped convince my colleagues that there is still a lot to do. We really need to be ambitious.”

The Climate Fresk workshop at TAUW raised greater awareness and sparked an intrinsic motivation to include climate change issues in all TAUW projects. For Baptiste, Climate Fresk was a game-changer. He has gained a strength of conviction that he applies in his work. Baptiste: “I was always proud to work at TAUW but since I got involved in Climate Fresk, my mindset has changed. I am more engaged in the organisation and I contribute ideas and initiatives instead of waiting to be told what to do.”

Baptiste has joined the sustainability team and is excited about the opportunities at TAUW to further his career in sustainability. “Being a facilitator has helped me to develop other skills as well. I am comfortable presenting in front of groups. My conviction that the climate transition is possible gives me the confidence to take action and become more active in TAUW.”
